Magnoliah Black
Irene McCalphin aka Magnoliah Black blends modern movement and words with neo-burlesque to create socially conscious art pieces that add voice to marginalized communities and celebrates the human body. She has performed her writing at Black Love at Strut, Radar Productions, Writers with Drinks and has danced on stages throughout the country with the award-winning and internationally traveled troupe Rubenesque Burlesque from 2009 to 2015. As a solo performer her work continues to reflect body positivity, visibility through vulnerability, and self-possession beyond the static sizest and often racist beauty myth. As a published author, producer, public speaker and performance artist, Irene draws attention to the ever-evolving intersections of fat, feminism, kink, spirituality and human sexuality with the intent to facilitate radical acceptance and inclusion.
